Osmo

Osmo natural wood finishes are based on oils and waxes. The oil penetrates into the wood surface, protecting the wood from deep within. The waxes form an elastic, microporous surface which protects the wood from external moisture and abrasion. The wood remains naturally beautiful, protected and durable.

FAQS

How do I maintain or repair an Osmo finished timber surface?

Osmo finished timber is simple to maintain because many surfaces can be spot repaired without sanding the entire floor, benchtop or furniture piece. For regular care, use the matching Osmo cleaning and maintenance products such as Osmo Wash & Care, Liquid Wax Cleaner or Maintenance Oil to clean, refresh and extend the life of the finish.

What is the difference between Osmo Polyx Oil Clear and Osmo Polyx Oil Raw?

Osmo Polyx Oil Clear is designed to enhance the natural character of timber and is available in different sheen levels such as matt, semi-matt, satin and gloss. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is designed for light coloured timbers where you want a more natural, nearly invisible look with less yellowing and less of the permanent wet look effect.

Is Osmo Polyx Oil good for timber furniture and floors?

Yes. Osmo Polyx Oil is a durable, low maintenance oil and wax finish for interior timber. It penetrates into the timber surface, enhances the natural character of the wood and creates a hard wearing finish that is easier to repair and refresh than many traditional film finishes. It is also stain resistant and food safe when dry.

Which Osmo finish should I choose for my project?

Choose Osmo Polyx Oil for interior timber such as furniture, floors, doors and joinery. Choose Osmo Polyx Oil Raw if you are finishing light coloured timber and want to reduce the yellowing or “wet look” effect. Choose Osmo Top Oil for kitchen benchtops, worktops and general interior joinery. Choose Osmo Decking Oil, UV Protection Oil or Anti-Slip Decking Oil for exterior timber such as decks, garden furniture, cladding and outdoor projects.

What is Osmo timber finish used for?

Osmo timber finishes are used to protect, enhance and maintain interior and exterior timber. They are popular for furniture, floors, benchtops, chopping boards, doors, decking, cladding and outdoor timber projects. Osmo finishes are based on natural oils and waxes, which help protect the timber while keeping the natural look and feel of the wood.

What type of finish is Osmo, and how is it different from paint or varnish?

Osmo is a German-made natural oil-wax finish that penetrates into the wood rather than forming a hard surface film like paint or varnish. Because it soaks into the timber fibres, it enhances the natural grain and texture of the wood and feels more natural underfoot or to the touch. If it is scratched or worn over time, it can be spot-repaired without sanding back the entire surface, a significant advantage over hard surface coatings.

What is the difference between Osmo Polyx Oil and Osmo Top Oil?

Osmo Polyx Oil is the standard interior floor and furniture oil-wax finish, available in gloss, satin, semi-matt, matt, and raw finishes, suitable for floors, furniture, and panelling. Osmo Top Oil is specifically formulated for kitchen and bathroom worktops and is food safe once cured, making it the right choice for benchtops and food preparation surfaces. Both are oil-wax finishes, but Top Oil has enhanced resistance to water, food spills, and kitchen chemicals.
