FAQS

What types of woodworking clamps does Hammer Roo stock?

Hammer Roo stocks a full range of woodworking clamps including F clamps, parallel clamps, quick-release clamps, band clamps, spring clamps, guide rail and track saw clamps, clamping systems, and accessories. Whether you are doing a panel glue-up, assembling a carcase, or securing a workpiece for track saw cuts, the range covers cabinet making, furniture making, and general workshop use.

What is the difference between parallel clamps and F clamps?

Parallel clamps (sometimes called cabinet clamps) have wide, flat jaws that remain parallel to each other across the full range of travel, which prevents the clamp from bowing a panel and applies even, flat pressure across a glue-up. F clamps have a fixed head and a sliding arm with a swivel pad, they are faster to position and very versatile, but the swivel pads can apply slightly uneven pressure on wide panels. Parallel clamps are generally preferred for furniture glue-ups where flat, consistent pressure is critical.

What clamps do I need for cabinet making?

For cabinet making, the most useful clamps are parallel clamps or F clamps for panel glue-ups and carcase assembly, quick-release clamps for holding workpieces during cutting and routing, and spring clamps for light assembly and positioning. Guide rail clamps are also useful if you use a track saw. Hammer Roo stocks all of these types across multiple sizes to suit different panel and carcase dimensions.

How many clamps do I need for a timber panel glue-up?

As a general rule, clamps should be spaced approximately every 150 to 200mm along a panel glue-up to ensure even pressure and consistent glue distribution. For a 1200mm wide tabletop, this means at least 6 to 8 clamps. Alternating clamps above and below the panel, one on top, one below, helps prevent the panel from bowing under clamping pressure during the glue-up.

What is a band clamp used for?

A band clamp (also called a strap clamp) uses a webbing strap that wraps around an irregular or multi-sided workpiece, with corner pieces to direct clamping pressure where it is needed. They are ideal for gluing picture frames, chair legs, octagonal boxes, and any shape that is difficult to clamp with a straight bar clamp. Hammer Roo stocks band clamps suitable for furniture and frame assembly.
