Maximizing Durability with Osmo: The 60g/m² Rule

Everyone wants the best from their Osmo finishes. Good looks are one thing, but ensuring maximum durability & longevity is the real goal. But how do you know when you've hit that sweet spot?

Well, lets break it down by the application methods using grams per metre squared (g/m²):

  • Cloth: Approximately 5g/m² per coat
  • White Pad: 10g/m²
  • Applicator Fleece Pad: 15g/m²
  • Brush: 20g/m²
  • Osmo Microfiber Roller: 30g/m²

For optimal results, aim for 60g/m², which provides the highest durability and stain resistance. The quickest way to achieve this is to apply two thin coats using an Osmo microfiber roller. However, you're not limited to just one method—you can mix and match to reach that 60g/m² threshold.

There are also a couple more things to consider:

  1. Surface Use: Not all surfaces require 60g/m². High-use areas like countertops, cutting boards, and floors benefit most from this level of finish. For other items like furniture or wood accents, adjust your application method accordingly.

  2. Wood Variance: Different wood species absorb oil differently. Pine will soak up more than Blackbutt, so denser woods might require less.

By keeping these factors in mind, you'll make informed decisions about your finishing methods based on the project's purpose and the wood species involved. It's all about finding that perfect balance for lasting quality.
